Florida Pizza Chain Leads Efforts by Businesses to Secure COVID-19 Insurance Claims

Citing the orders issued by civil authorities in Florida which mandated the suspension of businesses for on-site services during COVID-19 pandemic, the owners of a group of pizzerias have filed a class action lawsuit claiming that its insurer has failed to pay for business loss claims that the restaurants suffered.

In particular, according to the lawsuit the policy issued by Lloyd’s provides for “Civil Authority” coverage, in which underwriters will pay for losses incurred by the action of a civil authority that prohibits access to the premises.

Burns Bowen Bair LLP is among the law firms noted as representing plaintiffs in this and similar claims.
