A federal judge in Illinois has ruled that three bellwether cases in multidistrict litigation against Society Insurance Co. will be allowed to proceed, over the insurer’s widespread denial of COVID-19-related coverage.
U.S. District Judge Edmond E. Chang refused to dismiss the claims brought by a group of restaurants, bars, and theaters for lost business income coverage, although he did throw out the policyholders’ bids for coverage under a number of other policy provisions.
The policyholders are represented by Tim Burns of Burns Bowen Bair LLP, as well as attorneys from DiCello Levitt Gutzler LLC, The Lanier Law Firm PC, McGuireWoods, Clifford Law Offices, and others.
